Mountain Rescue Team Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team, operating from a purpose built base, provides a search and rescue service spanning the Howgills, NW Yorkshire Dales, part of the North Pennines and the Orton Fells.
As a registered charity, entirely funded by donations, its 30 or so members – who are all unpaid volunteers responding to emergencies any day of the year in all weather conditions – commit to a rigorous programme of training.
Following the acquisition of a new Land Rover Defender, with support from Lloyd Land Rover (Carlisle), it was felt that the livery should conform with the latest guidelines proposed by Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW).
The Cumbria Sign shop, which has a long standing relationship with Rennicks UK built on trust, support and outstanding Nikkalite® product quality, proposed a number of options for the livery using Crystal Grade and Engineering Grade. A key driver for satisfaction was striking the balance between the national MREW guidelines and the local Rescue Team brand identity.
Crystal Grade & Engineering Grade
Nikkalite® Crystal Grade and Engineering Grade micro-prismatic sheeting is extremely durable, flexible, easy to apply with high visibility properties, particularly at night. All this, combined with the bright color range, provided the all round (including above for helicopter recognition) day and night-time solution for the new vehicle livery.
Applying the livery to the new vehicle, left the team’s remaining two Land Rovers looking somewhat dated, so they were also upgraded, providing improved visibility and a consistent overall image to the complete fleet.
The excellent color combination, availability of the products in stock at the Cumbria Sign shop, flexibility and ease of installation delivered the desired results to get the vehicles up and running again quickly and efficiently, so operational cover was maintained whilst each vehicle was out of use.
